Specific Issues for Discussion:

This lightning talk seeks to address the escalating issue of online abuse impacting women, girls, and gender minorities through a ‘whole-of-society’ framework developed by The Dialogue. This innovative approach to combating Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV) spans six stages: Access, Prevention, Intervention, Report and Redressal, Recovery and Healing, and Research.

Current responses to TFGBV often lack coordination, leading to fragmented solutions and gaps in policy and research. Various entities are working independently, focusing on disparate aspects such as awareness, legal reform, or support services, but there is an absence of coordination and synergy
between their efforts. Our framework addresses these issues by promoting unified efforts across various stakeholders including government bodies, tech companies, community organisations, educators, and researchers. It emphasises the need for a survivor-centric approach, placing the rights and needs of survivors at the core of all strategies, from secure technology access to comprehensive recovery support.

Moreover, while current efforts may focus on immediate measures like content takedown and offender prosecution, they often neglect underlying causes and systemic issues. Our framework advocates for a holistic perspective, analysing patterns and interconnections to enhance the effectiveness of interventions and ensure a sustainable, long-term impact.
